Ask any photographer, and they will tell you that they are not able to photograph their own children as often as they would like. I mean, we do fun shoots every now and then, but nothing we treat as a session.
One dreary day, I rushed my kids home from school so we could snag some decent pictures. It was so cloudy, which is usually a blessing...but I had timed it for sunset. I really wanted some gentle sunlight coming through those clouds. But with all things, you get what you get!
Our first location was a field I found near my home. This lovely field was covered in stickers and cacti (I had to look that up. Apparently the plural for cactus can be cacti, cactuses or cactus. There is my lesson for the day!). My dog was also not interested at all in looking at me. I resorted to mimicking a cat, that did not work either. It was ugly I tell ya. So we all headed back to the car and removed stickers off of the bottoms of our shoes (and paws) to find a last minute location. It was about to get dark and I had to hurry! So we found a location off of the walking/bike trail in our neighborhood. Whew. Ten minutes there and we were done.

The kids were good sports. The dog didn't run away. We got a few good shots. Score!

I spent a Saturday photographing a ton of clients. It was an awesome day because I got to photograph some dear friends, clients from year's past, and more recent faithful clients! As much as I want to write about my adoration for each one, I am certain they would rather me continue in my editing so that they can get their Christmas cards out!

A Day in the Life of an Assistant

Read the 4 posts below, and view those pics. They turned out the way they did due to one of my fave assistants (I have a few other very awesome assistants..but she will be a constant). See, my assistants work like crazy. This one was in charge of my clients' hair on a windy day, getting little ones to smile, posing so I can test lighting, and holding equipment.

She was a pro. She was paid nicely (a dollar per year of her life) plus a nice lunch. She rocked.

Below are images of my assistant hard at work. Not everyone is cut out for this job. She was worked to the bone as you can see.

Last, but not least (see previous posts), is BethRed. We have BethBlonde and BethRed in our group...lucky us, huh?

Beth is one of my rocks in this world. Something about her makes me free to be me and open my heart and soul to her. There is so much about this insanely awesome woman, one of them being that she doesn't know how insanely awesome she is. I could go on and on about her brains, lovely voice, and kick ass sense of humor...I am smitten with her because of those traits but also of her solid dedication to her family and friends. She is simply a beautiful being in so many ways. She is also surrounded by this gorgeous family. Her handsome soulmate of a husband is her perfect match, and together they created and are raising two awesome children. My children love love love them. The first flowers my son bought for someone other than me, was little Vivien (who is also one of my daughter's best friends). Speaking of my daughter, she can not get enough of Silas....look at that smile. Swoon.

One of my Soul Sisters..and Her Family

As a continuation of the previous posts, I am continuing my love fest of a special circle of friends. Jen came into my life a little later than the other girls, but boy did she fit right in. A few years later, I consider her a soul sister of sorts. She has this ease to her personality that made me feel like I have known her for centuries. She has this beautiful family that handles what comes to them in stride, to the point that she inspires me more than she may know. I have seen that handsome son grow into this awesome little man, which is no surprise. Then there is her talented daughter, who is wise beyond her years. My daughter is smitten with her and looks up to her as I do her mom. I love this family. Their dynamic and strength is amazing. They are beautiful to boot. So, there ya have it! Meet my Jen, and her family.

Now meet my friend Chelsea and Chloe. Talk about sweet, loving, gorgeous souls. Chels has let her passion for life get transferred to her lovely daughter. Recently our connection got even stronger. My son went to church camp this summer with Chloe (and Donna's son from post below) where Chelsea was one of the volunteers. This was a special camp for my son...because he had JUST lost his Poppy (my father-in-law) to cancer. They were so very close, and my sweet son was having a hard time. Chloe's mom loved on my son during his saddest moments. I knew, with all my heart, that he was in good hands. She had been an ear during Poppy's battle with cancer, and knew my son would have a hard time. She was there, and she will forever hold a special place in my heart because of this. My son will never forget either. I could go on and on, but I MUST share these images of this stunning duo (and I mustn't cry).

My DonnaDear's Boys

The next few posts are going to be from sessions that I shot this morning. A few dear friends met with me to get some shots before the holidays. I am a lucky girl with so very many dear and loving friends in my life. The next few posts will be a small sampling of a special group of girls that I consider family. When we are all together, there is a very rare dynamic that is hard to explain. Like, when together, we can do anything. Our children have the same connection!

It was a lovely morning! My daughter, who assisted me in my shoot, was thrilled to see her dear friends. It was an extremely windy day. But we made it work, as we do!

Meet my friend, DonnaDear's (my daughter pretty much named her), sons. I love these boys. We also have a feeling that the youngest will more than likely be my son in law one day. Hehe. Then there is her oldest, who is seriously an awesome young man. He is wise beyond his years and is my son's great friend who is such a fabulous influence and role model. Really. This is no surprise, their parents are like family to my own family....and they inspire my husband and I often. I just wish we lived closer.

From snowy Christmas Eves to lazy summer lunches after church....I feel at home in their home, as do my children. Some of my all time favorite memories are in Donna's kitchen. I can not get enough of her (or her cooking). Swoon.

Shane & Beth: One Year Later (Part I)

What a fun shoot. Beth contacted me and wanted to photograph her and her handsome husband of one year in their wedding day duds. My response was heck yeah! Beth is a woman of many talents and I knew she would rock the shoot. How many women can be an awesome hair stylist, make totally yummy food AND sing? See, Beth and Shane are part of Lovesick Mary.... and they actually met at one of our session locations. Pretty hot, huh? I loved listening to their music while I edited. Can't do that every day, huh?

We had a blast. They were naturals and were up for anything! We basically drove around Denton and would stop when we found a cool spot. Good stuff.

I am giving you two parts of this shoot, because the final location lent itself to a whole other vibe. Think drinks and a sexy pool table.

Here is part one plus a huge shout out to Mad World Records for allowing us to use their store for a few sessions. Shane even happened to find something to purchase in there. Haha.

My Sweet Libby

Remember the birth of Libby? Or her 3 week old pics? Well, here are her first family pictures. A bonus, she is now sitting up! Where does the time go?

I could not help but smile as I went through her pictures. She had just discovered her toes and she was much more interested in the children running around and blowing spit bubbles than she was in me. But that is the good stuff, right?

TWU Mini's Sneak Part One!

Let me tell you, my little girl is smitten with Annie, she adores her. She has grown into a beautiful (inside and out) young lady. Meet My BethBlonde and Her Mini-Me's

Every now and then, someone comes along and sweeps you off your feet. Their soul speaks to yours, and you feel like you have been connected for centuries although you just met. That is the feeling I had when I first met BethBlonde. My oh so dear friend, BethRed, knew that we needed to meet. Since then, although we do not see each other very often, we have become sisters in a way. Our daughters instantly connected, we share random food habits (baking bacon instead of frying, use coconut oil to pop popcorn...random), and we feel a overwhelming sense of joy to see the other constantly evolving into a better and happier person.

I was thrilled to photograph my beautiful friend and her spritely daughters. Although we did some more traditional shots, I am going to share with you the fun, silly, awesome shots. Because it is in those where you see her peaceful patience and love that the trio share. Without further ado...

The final session from my Grapevine minis was a totally fun family!! The gorgeous mom, Mary, is a former client turned friend. She has so much charisma, passion and energy, it was no surprise that this session was a great way to end a long day! The kids were troupers as we trotted all over downtown. Seriously, they were awesome.

Jimmy & Jenny are Getting Married!

Remember this couple? Well, I got to meet their beautiful daughter and her fiance yesterday for their engagement session! It was a great location and a very cool couple. I simply can not wait to shoot there wedding day. Are they not the cutest couple? As for Jenny, the apple doesn't fall from the tree. She was bound to be beautiful with parents like that. ;-)

Thank you Jenny and Jimmy for climbing all those stairs, putting up with the wind on the roof, and for making out on demand. Hehe. So thrilled to have finally met you both!

Meet Kennedy and Her Beautiful Mommy

I met Kennedy's mom over 4 years ago when she asked me to do her maternity pictures! I immediately fell in love with her. A year later I got to photography 1 year old Kennedy as she smashed birthday cake her in face. Now, sweet Kennedy just celebrated her 4th birthday. Time flies.

Baby girl was pretty sleepy (she was one of our last sessions) and was not in the mood to smile and pose. Which totally worked out in our favor! I was able to capture her sweet face in all purity. No cheesing for her. I was also able to capture to mother/daughter bonding at it's finest.

Kitty, hug that sweet girl for me. Thank you so much for letting me watch your daughter grow up.

I met this family a couple of years ago when Brianna was just a baby when our families got together. We have been able to watch this pretty little thing grow and learn. She is a gem. Sadly, this will more than likely be my last session with her. She is moving soon. :(

Here is a very special family. I have photographed them for years (here is the last fun session I had with them) ....and at one point, our children attended Mother's Day Out together. Eventually, their mom became a dear friend of mine. I adore her spirit!
Once again, they were a blast. Although we missed the oldest son, Max (college!), it was a fun 45 minute shoot!

3 Lovely Ladies

My day of mini sessions began with a boom! Three beautiful, fun, energetic ladies met me at 8:30 in the morning to fight the wind and work with it! The insanely pretty mom ( I love her even more because we share the same name!) and her 13 year old daughter and 23 year old daughter we so much fun to work with.

A Wicked Halloween in Deep Ellum

You will remember this family from this rad wedding! A while back ago, they won a session with me when my Facebook fan page hit 500 fans. You have no idea how thrilled I was that I would be able to photograph them again. I knew they would make it fun, and what a better time to use their session but for Halloween.

A little addition is that I am completely smitten with their gorgeous little girl. Shooting their wedding, it became clearly obvious the amount of respect and love that everyone has for her. Not only from her family, but from her parents' friends. She is a special little soul for sure.

Matt & Hailey....The Reveal

Let me begin by letting you know how special this wedding was to me.
I met Hailey through one of my VERY best friends (past client and sister I never had), Jessica. You see, Hailey and Jessica have been best friends since they were young. Oh, Jessica is also married to Hailey's brother who is also one of my fave photographers (see my profile pic? He took it).The two girls were assistants on my boudoir events and it was a given that we all worked so well together. I feel like a deep bond was formed when we spent a weekend doing a Trash the Dress Session (look!). On that trip, we talked about love, and that she would soon find it when God knew it was time. That same weekend, Hailey decided to call me Aunt Kandi.

Well, God spoke up, he kind of screamed to Hailey. He gave her Matt. He is such a fantastic young man...wow. Their story is too beautiful for me to tell. Maybe the two of them will share it one day. Either way, I was so honored when she asked me to photography her wedding. Also a little nervous because her brother is such an insanely talented photographer, the pressure was on. Ha.

Needless to say, there will be a series of posts from Hailey and Matt's magical day. I am going out of town this week and wanted to get the blogging started!

Meet Elizabeth Ruby (aka Libby)

So, I woke up yesterday morning and saw a text from one of my favorite people (remember her and her adorable husband?). She was in labor....and halfway there! I knew that I would photograph her birth, but I thought I had a few more weeks. That baby girl had other plans and decided she didn't want to wait an extra 5 weeks to meet mommy and daddy.

After pushing my kids out the door for school, I headed to the hospital. Arianne was at a 6 when I arrived and the contractions were kicking in pretty hard. She did this with no drugs, so needless to say she was in pain. Her mom (love her) and her husband took turns holding her hand and rubbing her back. But they didn't have to do it for long, because Libby was ready!
To see a baby born is one of the coolest experiences ever. You can't help but cry. Wow. Libby was perfect but premature so she was taken away to be observed (by the way, the staff at Grapevine Baylor was awesome and loved on that baby girl).

Talk about a wedding full of color and character! These two pulled off quite the event, along with the help of some awesome family and friends.
Although the wedding was so very cool, what really made the day was the couple and their beautiful daughter. The love and respect that they have for one another was truly breathtaking. I can not tell you how the little looks between the bride, groom, and their daughter electrified the room. Truth.

Meet my beautiful friend and her fiance. When she asked me to shoot her wedding (and engagements and bridals!!) I was beyond honored.

Kari and I go way back. She was there for me the morning that I got those first two pink lines on a stick. She was by my side in the hospital while I was in labor with my 1st born. She was even his first babysitter (other than MiMi and Poppy). She and I have been through a ton together. She is one of my very favorite people and one of my best friends.

This shoot was fun, and low key! G and Kari are a cute couple....love them both. And love G's truck. Swoon.

Talk about an old soul. B is a smart and well spoken 9 year old. She gets people, and can carry on a conversation in a way that you forget she is a child. That being said, she has that little spark in her eyes that I LOVE about children. She is that perfect little combination. Can you tell that I kinda dig her?

I loved this photoshoot with B and her dad. It was shot at their home which also happens to be the lovely venue, Ryan Manor.

Well, we had to do a part two to their photo session because unexpected traffic caused us to run late and not get the sunset pictures that we really wanted, in addition to capturing the vision we all had in mind. So they came in at the end of my day of mini sessions and we spent until sunset fighting the wind and getting some super cool shots.
Thank you K and D for being so fun to work with, and for making out on command. Ha.

Meet Michael and Brooke. I was sooo excited to meet them. As many of my clients know...I kind of stalk them on Facebook before I meet them. Ha! I want to try to get to know as much about them so that the shoot is smooth and I capture "them".
Immediately I knew I loved them. So easy going, chill, and went with the flow. They are such a cute couple, and both of them have eyes that take your breathe away. No kidding.

Grapevine Sneaks Part One!

I had a day of mini sessions yesterday in Grapevine. Other than the wind being a challenge, it was a blast shooting so many families and couples. There are a couple families who asked for me not to blog the sneaks, as they are Christmas gifts to their family who also read my blog. But...I will be able to share 3 sessions today.

Here is the first one, a lovely family that I first photographed in my beginner days in photography! It was so nice to see them after so many years! As always, they were so sweet. You can tell that these children are raised in such a loving home.

I have been lucky enough to watch these kids grow up, and I simply adore them. The kids rocked the shoot even though it was cold outside. At the end of the shoot; I asked Gates (the handsome guy below) that the shoot wasn't too bad, was it? He replied "I don't think it was good. It was great!". That made my day. Swoon.

I met Karin a year ago, and absolutely fell in love with her and her group of friends. Not long after, I had the pleasure of meeting her handsome hubby during a fundraiser for my 3Day. Such a fun and gorgeous couple.

Needless to say, I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph their empty nest photos! They look too young to be empty nesters....don't you agree? Like I told them, they are like fine wine, they just get better with age.

I love the fact that every single session I had this weekend were with clients that have come back to me year after year. I am so lucky being the one to watch the kids grow and change!

These two cuties were seriously SO MUCH FUN. I have been lucky enough to have watched them grow. I met their awesome mom years and years ago when I first got into photography. Later she asked me to come to her home for some maternity pictures and I got to meet her wonderful husband. Soon I was able to photograph the kids when they first started crawling and then again walking. Now here they are turning 3 very soon. They are so close, and their little personalities just made me smile. Never would have though shooting 3 year old twins would be this easy. Wow.

Below is a family so close to my heart. Beth is one of my very best friends, and such a smart and lovely woman. Last time I photographed her, she was pregnant with her son. Since then, my own children have become friends with her kids...they simply adore them (as do I). So shooting them this weekend was honestly a breeze and so much fun. I can not say enough good things about this family. Swoon.

These two kids have grown and grown. That cute little man didn't even have hair the last time I photographed him, and look at that hair now. Awww. I have loved watching the little girl go from being a little sweet girl to a confident and beautiful young lady. The mom and dad are just so easy going and trust me with creating memories. I was so happy to see them again after a little over a year.

He was soooo not into getting his picture taken in the beginning, but I couldn't NOT capture this little shot. So cute. Ha.

Sneaks From Morning Sessions!

What a wonderful yet muggy morning in Highland Park yesterday! My clients were rockstars though, enduring the humidity and heat for their 25 minute sessions!

Here is a precious little girl that I have been able to photography 3 times now. I am so smitten with her, as are her awesome parents.

The photo below I just love. She is an on the go little girl, and this captures her seriousness about getting from point A to the stairs. LOL She loves her some stairs.

She also loves her some daddy!

And here is such a beautiful family that I was lucky enough to meet several years ago. It was a tad of a stressful morning for them...but we were able to get some great shots! I hope this eases your mind B!

Nikki and Michael and The Baby Bump

Mary & Michael Got Married!!

Mary and Michael are a super cool couple. Not only are they funny and beautiful, but they are also insanely fit (I mean, come on! They own CrossFit in Rockwall !!).

The location was fabulous, the Aldredge House on Swiss Ave. The colors were fun and not traditional, and the food was healthy yet so very delicious (food makes Jackie and I very happy....so when there is good food, we are tickled).

Clayton & Maria: Whadda Wedding and Reception!

Jackie and I headed to Dallas this past Saturday to shot Maria and Clayton's wedding day! We adored this couple from 1st meeting them. They are so chill, open, and easy going. So we were not surprised when their friends and families were just as wonderful! Seriously, the entire wedding party and extended friends and family were a photographer's dream. The wedding and reception locations were also a dream. St. Rita's church was beautiful, and Three Three Three First Avenue was one of my fave reception locations. Everything from the raw coolness of the building to the staff who were so accommodating.

Time to stop yapping on just share the lovely sneaks!

Isn't he the cutest thing you ever set your eyes on? It took a while for him to warm up, but finally Matthew was ready for his close up. Ha.

This picture says a ton. First of all....one of the groomsmen is the drummer for the band that played at the reception. And this was not just any band. As soon as Jackie and I heard the first song, we looked at each other like "Wow. They are, like, really freakin' good. So good that I went home to listen to their music. Check out the Matt Boggs Band. No kidding. You will dig them.

Also, this photo shows how awesome Clayton and Maria are with kids. They actually let the kids help cut the groom's cake. Really. They will be wonderful parents one day. Also, that little man that they are dancing with was mine and Jackie's best friend. R.J. was the coolest little boy. He called us by our names, asked us 101 question, danced and rocked out to the band, and hugged Maria many times just because. It is obvious he adores her. Swoon. Miss R.J. already.

We would like to thank the Policemen for a) NOT arresting me for sending the wedding party in the middle of a busy street and b) for actually stepping in to direct the traffic and keeping the wedding party safe. They were really cool.

Gotta Love Boys

This is another little family that I have photographed a couple of times! I first met their mom at one of our big boudoir events (not long after she had the twins no less!). Since then I have been able to see her three beautiful boys grow up (she has a baby on the way too! Yeah!). They are so much fun, and busy busy busy! I wear my running shoes for them. It is awesome. A couple of weeks ago, I met up with a few families for a day of mini sessions in Denton!
We started the morning off with a bang with former clients. Not only are they former clients, but the momma and I have become friends. She is also walking in the Breast Cancer 3Day again(donate to her)! Yeah!

What is fun about this family that they are so fun. No uptight photo session here. It is ALL about being casual, open, fun, and crazy. The kids have a blast, parents are not stressed, and the photographer is able to capture the family as they truly are. Score!!

Meet Melissa and Andrew. M flew in from New York for the weekend (A lives in Dallas). I was crossing my fingers that the weather would be nice, since it would be hard to reschedule. We got the hook up with yesterday's weather, and we beat the wind!

I have to say first, as the blog title says, I LOVE this couple. As soon as I met them I knew they would be fun. They had the best sense of humor, and were so comfortable in front of the camera. We started off in Highland Park (where there was police training going on, which is a story in it's own) and ended with a bang in Uptown.

They had NO problem making out in from of the camera. ;-)

Since they are having a wine and champagne themed wedding (in Rhode Island-I envy their photographer. psttt....if she cancels I will gladly take her place), we had to stop in Bread Winners where the staff was oh so cool to let us order a split of champagne and take up a table for 5 minutes. Not a bad start to a morning so far, making out and drinks.

We were really hoping to catch the trolley, but we were too early. So the tracks had to do. Love this photo.

Right about this time, Andrew's buddy drove by and they chatted. I don't think he saw me, so I am sure he was wondering why in the world Andrew and Melissa were making out by a light pole on the corner. Haha!

Meet my friend Lisa and her family. Lisa went from a client to a dear friend. A friend close enough to me that I can post a silly pic of her on here and I know she would still love me.

She is another mommy to all boys. See...cool factor just goes up, huh? Her family is just awesome. And that youngest has a portion of my daughter's heart. :) She loves her some Michael. And Jake is the middle...handsome little fella in his new glasses...huh? And Max grows like a foot every time I see him and is growing into a charming man just like his dad.

Chris and Becky-An Autumn Wedding

Autumn is such a lovely time of year, and this wedding was a perfect tribute to the season. Chris, Becky, and their beautiful daughter had such a perfect setting at the oh so lovely Wildwood Inn in Denton, TX. The details were ideal for this event!

See her bouquet? She and her family did all of the bouquets and the arrangements themselves. They were gorgeous. And even better, they offered us some to take home. They looked wonderful in my home. Thank you Becky!

Jackie and I counted down the days to Dustin and Summer's wedding! We have been a part of their journey together since the engagements. We were very hush hush back in January when Summer did some pictures for a gift for her wedding day, I was lucky enough to shoot their engagements, and Jackie hit downtown Dallas with Summer for her bridals. Not only are Dustin and Summer a beautiful couple inside and out, but they have an incredible support group in their friends and families!

Summer's shoes rocked. A LOT. Seriously hot!

A kiss in front of the church. The two never blinked an eye as we had them make out over and over and over again. Ha.

No Go Perform Your Monthly Breast Exam

Performing a regular breast self-exam will help you know the normal look and feel of your breast. Self breast exams will also help you notice any changes in your breasts.
For the most part, breast changes or lumps are not breast cancer. When breast cancer is found early, you have more breast cancer treatment choices and a better chance of recovery.

What am I looking for when I do a breast self-exam?
When you perform a breast self exam you should look for a hard lump or knot in or near the breast or in your underarm or a change in the way your breasts looks or feels.
Some other changes to look for are:
dimpling, puckering, or ridges of the skin on the breast
a nipple that is pushed inward rather than sticking out
redness, warmth, swelling, or pain

Jackie and I (aka SixPence Weddings) are team leaders for the Breast Cancer 3Day that is coming up in November. Together we will walk 60 miles in 3 days, and collectively have to raise $4600 in order to even walk and we still have more than half of that to raise.

We have many events coming up! Tomorrow (Friday the 25th of September) is one of the big events at an awesome location! We will have raffles and door prizes! And a portion of the night's proceeds will go towards our 3Day walk. Come out and have a Pink Martini!

Trashin' the Dress at Greer Farm!

First off, A HUGE thank you goes out to Sid and Eva Greer at Greer Farm (as many of you know, I LOVE Greer Farm. Check out my blog from my 1st trip there).
They trusted us to respect the farm and I truly thank them for letting us trash the dress on their property.

Remember this sneak peak?

A while back; Jessica, her bff Hailey, and myself took a road trip out to Greer Farm to trash Jessica's dress one year after her wedding. We debated over locations. She wanted water for sure. I wanted something that takes us back to a less hectic life. I know that Jessica is up for anything, including blocking out two days out of her busy schedule and staying the night in a cabin to get the shots of a lifetime.

We started off with a fun trip to the grocery store so that we could actually eat for the night. Jessica was getting a bit of attention (wonder why?).
Then it was off for some pictures before the sun decided to set. It was so hot outside, like around 100. Jessica was so not a diva. I heart her.

I knew my kids loved the swing, and I couldn't get Jessica off of it either. Haha.

While shooting, the goats decided to sneak up on Jessica. They were getting a little too close for comfort. Ha.

Hailey and I did some serious berry picking (these berries ended up going on our pancakes the following morning. Thanks to Sid bringing us the cup of sugar we needed at 7am the following morning).

I love this image of Jessica. She is such a beautiful woman, inside and out.

The heat was bringing out the sillies. Work that camera tiger.

After a little cool off, we waited for dark so that we could hit the movie theater (with the best coconut oil popcorn!).

The following morning we were up at 4:30(ish) and ready for some sunrise pictures. Thanks to Colton (Jessica's awesome hubby) for loaning us the rockin' vintage camera!

Time to dry off the dress! Haha.

This is was time for a little chilling out before heading off to get peach & Strawberry ice-cream and make our way back home.

Thank you girls for being so fun to hang with. It was the perfect time!

Jackie and her hubby celebrated their 5th anniversary a while back, so we headed to Jackie's fave place to shoot (Deep Ellum). I had a blast and I am certain they did too making out most of the time. LOL
